1952 MG TD For Sale
(Update March 2019 – SOLD)
Restored in the late 1970s by a long time car enthusiast and owner of various British and German sports cars. There are many restoration receipts from 1976-77. When the restoration was completed the car made the cover of the September 1977 newsletter of the Minnesota Chapter of the New England “T” Register, the “MG-T Tattler”.
The restoration included taking the car completely apart, rebuilding the engine, refinishing the body, interior and all mechanical systems. Originally red, the car was repainted ‘Damask Red’ as per the color chip included with the records from the late 70s.
The car was sold to its next owner in 1983, a professional photographer in Minneapolis, MN who estimates he drove the car just 800 miles between 1983 and Tobin Motor Works’ acquisition of the car in May 2018.
We took the car to Quality Coaches, THE British car shop in Minneapolis, for an inspection and general mechanical survey. Over $2,000 was spent in August, 2018 between 5 new Vredestein Sprint Classic tires, brake flush, radiator flush, new spark plugs, distributor, rotor, cap, various fuel lines and other work.
The older restoration has held up very well over the years. Always stored in the owner’s dry garage in the Winter time, it never saw the elements and it shows. The interior is black naugahyde, installed during the 1970s restoration. The wood dash, while not perfectly correct, has an interesting story.
The gentleman who restored the car in the 70s had a friend he met in England who worked at the Rolls Royce factory. When he heard that his buddy in the States was restoring a TD he suggested he send him a template of the dash and he would make him a nice wood dash for the TD, as that guy worked in the wood shop at the Crewe factory.
